Michael and Susan Lynch, proud parents of six, spent many years running a restaurant where they met a host of lovable individuals who became their “found family.” In this warm, diverse community, their children learned early on that the differences we encounter in others only deepen and enrich the friendships we form.
Inspired by this experience, Mike and Sue created the story of Bedwin to share this valuable lesson. Through Bedwin’s adventures, young readers are introduced to a cast of eclectic characters, teaching them that differences should be embraced and celebrated.
The Lynches reside in the scenic Hudson Valley, New York.

Bedwin
In Bedwin, Mike and Sue Lynch take young readers on an enchanting journey that celebrates the power of differences among new friends. Set against the backdrop of whimsical characters, the story introduces Bedwin, a lovable but lonely dragon who is misunderstood and feared by others.
Aimed at children and families, Bedwin explores themes of acceptance, curiosity, and the courage to embrace the unfamiliar. The story follows Bedwin as he searches for friendship and encounters a pair of eclectic companions, each with their own unique traits and quirks. Through these encounters, Bedwin teaches that the very things that set us apart can enrich the friendships we form.
Written in a charming poetic style, Bedwin invites readers of all ages to join in a celebration of diversity and discover the timeless truth that no circle is complete without embracing those who are different from us.
Mike and Sue's daughter, Amanda Minard, earned the honor of illustrating Bedwin after a lively sibling art competition. To this day, she proudly exercises her bragging rights at the Thanksgiving table, while her brother insists the contest was rigged—and that his stick-figure version of Bedwin was clearly superior.
